This week we worked on painting clouds and water. As usual, at my stage, I like to use a stock photo for inspiration, color picking, and so forth. I found the photo below of a boat on my hard drive (wonder what else is on there?) and I liked the colors and composition.
My first version was good for the sky but the water needed more movement.
With a little inspirational help from my instructors, this is the end result.

Also this week, I did an impromptu sketch of a little figurine of a punk rock girl that I have on my desk. This was a lot of fun, and I didn't finish it in 60 seconds as the exercise stated. I kept going.... I started with a canvas that was too small for her whole form, so later on I added some canvas to the bottom and continued. The boots are not quite right, and the flood-fill background and drop shadow are not technically allowed for this class, but I added those later just for myself and wanted to post her anyway. Actually I merged the layers and forgot to save a background-less image for the class. Ooops! Still, I had so much fun with this that here she is anyway. The first example is just for the class, the second is just for me. While adding on the feet and boots, I was reminded of those dolls that have all-in-one shoes and feet that snap on and off. Too funny!
