Introduction to Corel Painter

Mary T's Week Three

Fish Exercise

I used sharp and tapered chalk brushes and grainy blenders to sketch my fish from wallpaper photos. The background was done on a watercolor layer with a simple round wash brush, size 127. I used the splatter water brush for the "bubbles" and a fine flat brush for the reeds. I created the frame before reading the instructions for that, and eyeballed the selection size, so it probably isn't exactly even all the way around, but I settled. I think I used an impasto brush and texturizer on the frame, but I seem to be lacking notes on that! After resizing, the texture didn't fill the frame evenly and I have no idea why, because that was on a layer by itself. But since I wanted to get on with the lesson, I left it as you see it here.

Brush Dabs

My first brush dab was the heart shape, and I was very pleased with it. Forging ahead, I made five separate dabs with the pen brush for the flower: petals, center, right leaf, left leaf, and stem. But when I thought I was finished, I found that I had overwritten some dabs with others, and that they were named incorrectly and had the wrong icons. Some were duplicates and some were lost. I had to refer to the manual to find out how to get rid of the wrong ones. Finally I had just one of each, saved with the right name. I'm not sure how I got everything so jumbled up, so I'll have to practice this process some more.
