Introduction to Corel Painter

Mary T's Week Four

A Painting by Me

I tried to produce the flower from this royalty-free photo from www.fontplay.com. I do like the variety of great free photos here, when I get tired of using my same old relatives or pets as subjects.

I admit to tracing the shape of the flower petals for my painting, but everything else was really from scratch. I used a lot of the different Artist Oil brushes and mostly the grainy blender here, as well as a lot of layers. I found myself in trouble once or twice when I found out I had been painting on the wrong layer, and had to save as a .psd file and take it into Paint Shop Pro to fix/rename/duplicate/delete/otherwise doctor some layers that I couldn't change in Painter. I added the mat and frame in Painter though I was thinking how much easier it would be for me to do it in Paint Shop Pro. But I didn't! Honest!!

Quilt

And then I made my layered quilt image. I placed each square on its own layer, and grouped the layers by color when I was satisfied with the arrangement. I increased the canvas size and added a border around the outside, and smaller inner borders with the pen tool used in a straight line. Finally I added my stitching with the pen tool on a separate layer, and then dropped that layer to finish. I am very happy to have learned about the tool to rotate the canvas, which is one of my favorite discoveries in Painter!
